Let’s Create an Easy Dollar Tree Sunflower Decor for your Home
I love simple and cute and this one might be my favorite. Now the house shaped writing board from the Dollar Tree is going to need a little work so it stands and has a chimney, but I’m going to save those for the end of this tutorial. It will just be so much easier for you since I learned a few things or too from making this.
Step 1:
Start by removing the tie from the top and give the wood a slight sanding. You can choose any color you want for the frame, but I wanted it to have a stained look. My sunflower decor has the antique wax on the frame. Also take a tumbling towers piece and use the antique wax on that too for the chimney.
Add the antique wax to a lint free cloth and rub it onto the frame. I love this stuff! It gives the look of stain, but it’s easy to clean up from like paint.
Step 2:
It’s time to choose the quote for your sunflower decor and create the text in Cricut Design Space or use rub on letters.
For any saying, make sure it fits in about a 2 inches wide by 5 inches tall space. Don’t make the saying too large because the sunflowers take up space on the house.
My saying uses the Rustic Cherry font in Cricut Design space and I cut the design in permanent vinyl. Once the paint is dry, add the quote to the sunflower decor.
Step 3:
Remove the Dollar Tree sunflower florals from the stem and cut the plastic stem pieces on the back so the sunflowers will lay flat. Then hot glue the sunflowers to the side of the house. When I first made mine, I did the sunflowers before the quote and had to redo it because it covered the quote.
Step 4:
The last step is to add the chimney and the pieces to make the DIY sunflower decor stand up so it can decorate your home. Using the tumbling tower blocks, hot glue 2 blocks to the back of the house. Now depending on the floral sunflowers you use and the weight of them, you may have to add more tumbling blocks.
Next add the antique wax tumbling block onto the house as the chimney with the hot glue.
When I created mine, I did all of this first and then the pieces were in the way and made adding the quote really hard. Sometimes you learn as you go with DIY crafts.
I love this house, it’s so easy to make in 4 steps, quick to make and looks amazing! It can stay up all through fall or you can make it a permanent decoration in your home. I bet you want a dollar tree house decorations for all the different seasons too!
