Who else loves to Cricut, but find it expensive to constantly be buying signs, trays, shirts and more? I have found a solution to this by buying items at the thrift store and giving them a makeover. Trays are always the best because you can do so much with them. I realized last year that with all of my 4th of July decorations I had nothing that said “Happy 4th of July.” I’m sharing this really simple, easy and affordable Cricut 4th of July Tray from the thrift store.
The Rules:
- Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
- There’s no monthly theme.
- There’s no budget to stick to.

Using the Cricut to create 4th of July decorations (or any holiday) let’s me be creative and let’s me change up my holiday decor. This year to add to my Cricut 4th of July decorations I made these Faux Patriotic Book Stack and my favorite country song onto a sign (who else loves Rodney Atkins).

Let’s Create an Easy Cricut 4th of July Tray
As with all things from the thrift store, give it a good cleaning. I fount this wooden tray at my local Goodwill for $2.49 and I believe it was 50% off. I usually always try to look for items that are 50% off that week. Then I painted it with my sample can of Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. Snowbound is are trim color and the color of our kitchen cabinets. It works out great for projects. I gave the tray 2 coats and it covered nicely. I really like Rae Dunn decor so I went with the Desmond font to get that skinny, tall letter look. In Cricut Design Space™ I used a rectangle the size of the tray and created the lettering to go in the center. Using my Cricut Maker, I cut the wording in red Oracal 651 vinyl. Carefully weed your design (with your Cricut Weeding Tool) because the skinny letters can be tricky sometimes. Next use transfer tape to add happy 4th of July to your easy Cricut 4th of July decoration. I’m all about quick and simple crafts that don’t take to long or are to complicated. Cricut projects for the holidays and seasons are some of my favorites to create. It’s amazing how wood, vinyl, and some paint completely change an item. Bye bye Santa hello patriotic Independence Day decoration.
And now for more thrifty goodness!
