I know I’m like a broken record, but I truly wait all year for sunflowers to bloom. Once they come into bloom, I try to have a fresh bouquet whenever possible, but the next best our artificial sunflowers. On a recent trip to the Dollar Tree, I was inspired to create a new sunflower decoration for my home. This Dollar Tree Sunflower craft, is easy, can be completed in 3 steps in about 10 minutes. If you love sunflowers and the Dollar Tree, then don’t miss out on all my other creations at the end of this post.
Supplies for Sunflower Mason Jar Craft:
Virburnum Pick or Other Fall Floral (optional)
Wood Panel
1 Roll of Black and White Plaid Vinyl
Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
The supply list is super easy and can all be found at the Dollar Tree. So even with the new $1.25 price tag, your new sunflower craft should cost about $10. I had the circle wood panel in my craft stash, but the Dollar Tree sells a square wood panel in the plus section for $5. If you choose to put it on something else then the supplies are about $5. Either way, you can’t beat a new sunflower decoration for the price.
The first thing I would do before starting this project, is deciding on what the mason jar will go on. Another great backdrop for this would be a pizza pan (I just love pizza pan crafts). Decide on your background and paint it, stain it or leave it natural for the project. I chose to go with a natural background this time (not something I usually do).
How to Make a Dollar Tree Sunflower Craft
Step 1: Transforming the Dollar Tree Metal Mason Jar into a Buffalo Check Mason Jar
Remove the twine string and trace the mason jar onto the buffalo check vinyl. Then cut out the mason jar shape from the vinyl using scissors.
Once it’s cut out, add the vinyl to the mason jar, by matching it up and start by peeling up the top corner of the vinyl and apply it. Painters tape came in handy to keep the vinyl in place as I was trying to line it all up. Peel back the backing and go slowly and carefully, pressing the vinyl down with your hand as you peel.
Step 2: Adding the Mason Jar to the Wood Panel for the Sunflower Craft
Have your glue gun hot and ready to apply the mason jar to the panel. I don’t have a picture of this because it has to be done quickly.
Step 3: Add the Sunflowers to the Mason Jar
To prepare the sunflowers, remove them from the picks and cut the small stems off the back of them. Now they will lay flat when they are hot glued to the panel. Hot glue the sunflowers to the decoration and add as many as you like.
Step 4: Optional- Add More Floral and a Ribbon to Hang
This step is completely optional depending on where you want to place your sunflower craft. If you would like it to hang, then add a ribbon.
I also had some viburnum in my fall flower stash from my Dollar Tree Sunflower Centerpiece so I added some by just sticking it in between the sunflowers. For Thanksgiving time, fall leaves would look so pretty too. Again add as many florals as you would like.
Who’s ready to run to the Dollar Tree and grab these supplies to start crafting? I can’t wait to add this to my other sunflower decorations that I made last year. If you love sunflower decor like I do, then don’t miss out on my other Dollar Tree Sunflower Crafts.
