I was so excited when I found this tool box at the thrift store for $2.39. My mind automatically went to fall and I was seeing this filled with mums, pumpkins and more on the porch. Then my upcycle project for this month fell apart (it just needs more time then I had) so I decided to turn this from a tool box to porch decor. It even has a farmhouse flair that I love.
The Rules:
- Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
- There’s no monthly theme.
- There’s no budget to stick to.
Meet the Hosts
Let’s Repurpose a Tool Box to Porch Decor
The tool box needed a good cleaning, sanding, and paint. I also took off the handle because I wanted to set things inside the box. It’s looking good after some cleaning and sanding.
In my original plans for the fall, I was going to stencil pumpkins 25 cents and bloom on either side of the tool box. But what about Christmas and winter? I think this box will look so cute with evergreen branches and pine cones for Christmas so I decided to keep it plain white. Decorating the porch is one of my favorite things and I want this box to become a year round porch decor. It will just get a new style for each season. So after sanding I painted it white with outdoor paint.
Now it’s decorating time! For summer I placed 3 mason jars inside the box with twine tied around the top of each jar. Just simple & cute. Then I filled each mason jar with fresh cut flowers (and water of course) from my garden. The box still needs something so I added a burlap bow to the front of the box. I put daisies and coneflowers in the jars. My home is getting some great new curb appeal this year with my new milk can, rustic farmhouse stool, and my new planter box .
Here it is by my stool and flower box. My sweet violets are not doing well in this heat wave even though I’m giving them water twice a day.
It looks great on my milk can too!
Here’s another perfect spot for it on the front porch table. I think this one is my favorite because I can look at it out the front window.
Where would you put this beautiful box?
Check back during the different seasons to see my new porch decor. I’m looking forward to decorating this (especially fall). Do you have a piece on your porch you redecorate for the seasons?
And now for more thrifty goodness!
